Porcus, Todmorden

A pair of enterprising ladies who downshifted from high-flying corporate careers to raise gorgeous happy pigs on the hills above Todmorden.

A quote from Nat Clegg

“We grow our own rare breed, free-to-roam pigs and we carefully and respectfully turn them into real food. We use only local suppliers for all our needs and when we meet a new client, we think they should at least be making as big an effort to do the right thing as we are. Working with Holmes Mill is not just a pleasure, but also allows us to ensure that we’re living our values of looking after our customers, our staff and our business.”

“We make bacon, black pudding, air-dried ham and the mighty Buster’s Revenge sausage for Bowland Brewery. As well as using Buster IPA beer in our secret recipe, the pigs get the spin-off benefit of luxuriating in Bowland beer mash for their after dinner treat. As well as making the most of an otherwise throw-away by-product of the brewing process, this helps develop the exquisite flavour and texture of our award-winning produce.

“Just now and again, when we can spare some – Callum and Joe, the Butcher Brothers on the meat counter, will be stocking some rare breed pork from one of our full British rare breeds: Tamworth, Old Spot, Saddleback, Iron Age and British Mangalitza.

“Bowland Food Hall is a destination bringing local and not so local people together in harmonious conviviality. Porcus is delighted to be part of this fabulous foodie showcase and to have the opportunity, not just to work with like-minded suppliers and producers, but also to meet the customers, visitors and diners who give us a reason to keep getting up at 5am – often in the rain, usually in the dark, but always in the hope that we are doing the right thing.”
