A committed mother and daughter team honouring the legacy of a larger-than- life Lancashire cheese-making legend.

The late Bob Kitching was instrumental in bringing Lancashire cheese to a wider audience. His demonstrations and patter captivated audiences at country shows and food fairs across the nation and the cluster of cheese producers nestling in the shadow
of the Bowland fells are unanimous in their affection for Bob.

Bob’s achievements were recognised by Lancashire Life magazine in 2010, when he was named one of the county’s Food Heroes and his wife and daughter continue to uphold the family tradition.

“We still make cheese largely by hand in a tiny dairy on the outskirts of Chipping with amazing views of the Bowland Fells,” said Faye.

Using milk from local farms all within 10 miles radius of the dairy, Leagram is the only Lancashire cheese produced organically and just as in Bob’s day, Leagram cheeses continue to win awards.

“Dad always said if you look after the cheese, it will look after you, so we still make all our cheeses by hand and believe that this gentle approach, preserves a depth of flavour and the distinctive texture that’s so important to a good Lancashire.

“We’re excited to be joining other local food producers in the Food Hall to create a wonderful showcase for local produce and passionate artisan businesses to really put this gorgeous part of Lancashire on the food map of Britain.”
