Supplier Spotlight: Pies at Roy Porter Butchers

Who are you?

My name is Anne Ingham. After working alongside Roy as a butcher for the last 30 years, I am now the proud owner of Roy Porter Butchers in Clitheroe.

What do you make?

We are a traditional butcher’s shop and we pride ourselves on being able to source all our meat locally. We also have full traceability available on all our produce (so people can see what meat is used and where it has come from).

Alongside the shop, we also have our bakehouse where our delicious home-made pies are produced. We offer a variety of pies, all jam-packed with delicious fillings (including pork pies, which were made famous when Chris Evans announced on his Radio 2 Breakfast show that they were the best he’d ever tasted). A variety of ready meals are made in there too.

When did you start making pies?

The shop was first established in 1947 and, as time has gone by, the butchers shop has evolved to keep up with the times. We have been producing pies now for 20 years.

What makes your pies so special?

The contents of our pies are made using the same locally-sourced beef, lamb, pork, chicken and cheese, which we sell in the shop. This is what we feel makes them so delicious and special.

What’s your favourite way to enjoy your pies?

I’m not sure you can beat chips, peas and gravy with a pie. Baked beans also always go down well, with an addictive cheese and onion pie.

If you’d like to try some of the legendary pies from Roy Porter Butchers, they’re currently available in the Bowland Food Hall at Holmes Mill.
