Zest for Life

A career change prompted by a health scare proved to be the start of a life-changing journey for Sarah Pearson – chief mixologist on the juice bar at Bowland Food Hall.

Working hard and playing hard can take a heavy toll – as Sarah Pearson knows to her cost. Just a few years ago, Sarah suffered a frightening health crisis – prompting a soul-searching reappraisal of her life.

Now, the beaming Lancashire Lass radiates health and happiness after discovering a natural way to get back on the road to recovery.

“I’d been working long hours and not looking after myself nutritionally and one day my body just crashed and I started losing my hair,” said Sarah.

“The doctors said it wouldn’t grow back, so I started searching for my own natural remedies and after a lot of research, I returned to juicing and eating fresh produce.

“I did a juice detox and after about five days, my energy levels started to pick up, my mood lifted and I could feel little hairs starting to grow back. It felt like a miracle.”

Now, Sarah wants to help others improve their health through healthy, natural nutrition.

“A lot of that vague sense of fatigue or lethargy is down to the stress we put our systems under. Not eating properly and feeling too tired to take exercise makes things worse.”

Using her extensive knowledge of the health-giving properties of fruit, vegetables and herbs, Sarah can ‘prescribe’ a juice or smoothie that’s absolutely jam-packed with nature’s remedies.

So what does Sarah recommend to kick-start healthier habits to keep those New Year resolutions on track?

“Ginger has amazing anti-inflammatory properties and beetroot cleanses the system and boosts energy and oxygen levels, so it’s great for helping you work off those extra pounds that might have crept on over Christmas.

“Pineapple is a mood booster, so it’s ideal for people who might be suffering from winter blues and coconut water is one of the best hangover cures I’ve ever come across.

“The skill is combining essential nutrients in a juice that’s palatable and easy to drink – it’s much easier to be virtuous and maintain those healthy habits if it’s a tasty experience!”
