A former textiles mill where entertainment is our business. A beautiful collection of buildings that exude northern pride, with more than a hint of modern chic. A place to eat, drink and stay for as long as you want. This is Holmes Mill and we can’t wait to show you around.
Established in 1823, Holmes Mill has grown from a humble spinning block to the beating heart of Clitheroe’s cultural and culinary scene.
Following its initial construction the mill quickly grew from one building to many, becoming a manufacturing complex and four-storey office by 1848.
With the expanding capabilities of the site came engines and boilers to power the new weaving shed. The most impressive of these was a Clayton, Goodfellow & Company cross-compound horizontal engine, installed in 1910. We call her Elizabeth, and you can still see her in all her glory in The Engine Room of our Beer Hall!
Alas, as heavy industry began to leave the north west, uses for the Holmes Mill site became more and more limited, and the complex fell into disrepair.
But (as you might have guessed) our story doesn’t end there! In 2015, the now Grade II-listed site was purchased by James’ Places Group. Although in poor condition, following almost 200 years of alteration and changes to accommodate a variety of uses and having lain empty since the 1970’s.
Our vision is to bring this beautiful building back to life and enhance the features it holds in abundance. At the heart of the whole complex is the new brewery and beer hall, a showcase for Bowland beers alongside many others from respected suppliers both nationally and worldwide.
By the time it is finished it will still look like a thing of purpose that has been transformed into a thing of beauty.
Experience the finest ales straight from the Bowland Brewery, circumnavigate one of the longest continuous bars in the UK or find a quiet corner for a drink and bite to eat. This is a beer hall unlike anything you have seen before.
Our stunning Cotton Room is the perfect place for your wedding ceremony and celebrations, party, live music event or corporate function. Entertaining in style has never been so easy.
With a host of innovative outlets showcasing the finest food and drink from across the region, the Bowland Food Hall is a gourmet paradise. Grab a napkin and join in!
Is there anything better than the luxurious taste of freshly made artisan Gelato? We don’t think so. And our Gelato is the very best, homemade using locally sourced milk and cream with a pinch of sugar.
Our bustling café is located in the Boilerhouse, where there’s plenty of space to enjoy a coffee, cake and a natter. Local delicacies and specialist products take pride of place on the menu for those looking for a snack, sandwich or light lunch.
Welcome to the 1823 Spinning Block Bistro, Bar & Grill, a modern British seafood and steak restaurant preparing and serving truly remarkable food and drinks in a truly remarkable setting.
A stunning conversion of the oldest building within the site to create 39 individually designed and decorated bedrooms in the centre of Clitheroe. In the heart of the Ribble Valley
We are delighted to welcome Everyman cinema to the Holmes Mill complex. The perfect place to sit back, relax (in luxury seating) and enjoy the comfort of watching a film at home with the bonus of a big-screen experience.
